Crazy Hair Day - Bullying Main Focus

Bullying main focus, in Wild Times at Kool’s School features Principal Kool’s escapades once again being prominently featured in this second Kool Kids children’s book. It burst onto the local Ottawa, Ontario literary scene in late December 2017. Local artist and teacher Jessica Fleury’s realistic, evocative, and vivid illustrations make this non-fiction book a must read for children ages 4-12, their parents, educators and caregivers. The independent reading level of this unique book is grade 4.5 or nine or ten year old year old students.

Principal Kool starts his very busy day, with his hair up in pink curlers, as he gets ready to  participate in Crazy Hair Day. While driving to his large elementary school, the police stop him for speeding. Other incidents have considerable appeal to the young reader. Among the other highlights of Crazy Hair Day include : a bus incentive program for a challenging student, a game of basketball enjoyed by students who run up and down the court with their colourful flowing hair,  a wayward student seeking refuge in the lost and found box, and a wonderful musical concert enjoyed immensely by both staff and students. Bullying main focus here as a verbal bullying incident rears its ugly head but is dealt with swiftly by principal Kool as he suspends the three students for two days.

One of the surefire ways to keep bullying incidents to a minimum at your child’s school is to have a principal who has a daily presence at the school. Leadership, knowledge, flexibility, resilience, ability to motivate, model of respectful behavior, active listener, decision maker, caring person, creative thinker… these are some of the main attributes effective principals must possess to lead their schools. However the habit of daily principal presence trumps them all!

As parents I encourage you you to ask your  child’s principal to consider sending out the following principal presence survey to the entire ELEMENTARY school population. Kindergarten pupils’ surveys will substitute happy, solemn, and sad faces as the three categories. Teachers will read the questions to the students.

Please click here if you think that this survey may be helpful for your child’s principal to use

Parents and Educators : What is your reaction to such a questionnaire?

Your feedback is valued.

A complete list of 10 ways for students of all ages, are provided  as a means to negate bullying incidents. Readers, both children and adults, take great delight in trying to find a miniature picture of principal Kool carefully hidden on each page containing a large illustration. The book is dedicated to the late Richard Bourbeau, stage name, Yaki, a local Ottawa musician who often performed in many of our local Ottawa, Ontario’s Elementary schools. A portion of the sale of each book continues to support Kids Help Phone(Canada) . This highly unique children’s  book sells for $ 12.00 CAD. Price of shipping and handling varies according to number of books ordered.
